What makes you think your thoughts are any more interested in truth than your body? We live within a divided story, as if our minds look to heavenly absolutes while our mortal frames contend with the relative but real threats of this world. But of course our thoughts are as tasked with our survival as our adrenal system, searching day and night for a place without danger and death. As seekers, we spin ourselves personal narratives of conflict and torment, of two selves pulled in opposing directions. In truth though, we are utterly unified, an engine purring without friction, singularly focused on one thing only, passionate survival, ceaseless escape from death until it comes. Let’s stop pretending anything else is going on here.
